About This Item
Baltimore: Walters Art Gallery, 1965 4to (28.5 cm), 201 pp. Cloth backed printed boards. From the foreword: "This exhibition is an attempt to cover the calligraphy produced during a period of almost exactly 2000 years in the regions using the Latin alphabet. The earliest exhibits are incised monumental inscriptions of the Flavian period in Rome; the latest is an example in italic script written in May, 1965. As no one institution could mount the entire display effectively, it was decided to present it as simultaneous three-part showing -- Part I: The first century A.D. to the 15th century, at the Walters Art Gallery; Part II: The 16th to 18th century, at Baltimore Museum of Art; Part III: The 19th century to 1965, at The Peabody Institute Library."
