New York: Farrar, Straus & Cudahy, 1957. compiled and edited by Marion Turner Sheehan with an introduction by Clare Boothe Luce First Printing 8vo size hardcover with dust jacket; 238 pages From jacket: "This book opens with eye-witness accounts of two historic events which took place in Rome in July, 1921 - Benedict XV's last consistory (at which Msgr. Achille Ratti, the future Pope Pius XI, was made Cardinal) and Benito Mussolini's political debut; it ends in April, 1954 with a message of Easter hope. In between these dates (the author) wrote this history of three decades of growing Papal prestige." Author Anne O'Hare McCormick was a foreign correspondent for the New York Times. She was the first woman appointed to their editorial board in 1936 and the first woman to receive a Pulitzer Prize for correspondence in 1937. Jacket has minor chipping, rubbing, some soil to the back cover and foxing to inside flaps. Grayish blue endpapers are faded at inner seams and margins. Book has bumped head and heel of spine, foxing to endpapers, first few and last few pages and outside pages and some light foxing in the bottom margin of some pages. Page 177/178 has an area that wasn't cut properly at the bottom margin and the small area of overhang is crushed. Pencilled price on fep. . First. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
