About This Item
New York: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1942. A true story of a Maine Family Robinson. Louise and her husband Ralph have a cabin in the heart of the Rangeley Lake Region of Maine. There is nothing at all on the hills but forest, and nobody lives there but deer and bear and wildcats. The lakes come down from the north like a gigantic staitcase to the sea. This is the background for Mrs. Rich's unique and enchanting story. Twenty illustrations from photographs accompany text. Decorated beige linen boards, brown title print to spine. Map endpapers. Name to prelim. Dust jacket does not carry a price. The date given is that of the copyright date. A clean, tight copy.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair.

I don't understand either of these other two reviews, but this book is my favorite book ever. LDR has such a clear, crisp way of writing and her stories from her years living in rural (VERY rural) Maine in the early 1900s are poignant, funny, and timeless. I picked this book up at a used bookstore not knowing anything about it and was pleasantly surprised to find a real gem.

This is a book of pirates. There is no caribbean cricket in here. Ignore the other review.
