Illustrated with photographs of armor pierced by Wheeler-Sterling projectiles, frontispiece bird's-eye photograph of Sterling Steel Mills at Demmler Station, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A summary of test results for armor piercing, explosive armor piercing, and explosive semi-armor piercing projectiles made by the Sterling Steel Company.The tests were conducted from 1891 to 1895 for the United States Navy Department. Some of the projectiles were designed to simply penetrate the armor of a ship, some were designed to penetrate and the explode inside the ship, a new technology at the time. An historical society discard, small paper label affixed to front cover fol library code, 2 historical society ink stamps on title page, no other markings. Covers show brown tone at edges, front cover shows 1.5in edge tear at the spine. Internally fine, good binding.

There is a wide piece of binding tape attached to the inside cover, front and back, which looks like it used to hold something. No dj. HC is soiled and worn alongs edges and corners. Edges are bumples. Paper on binding is split inside back cover. Interesting and rare book begins with a history of sanitation in battle from the 13th century and a letter from the Surgeon General's Office September 7, 1862 to the Secretary of War. Several pages have tears along the top edge and some pages have tiny creased corners. Contains PLATE MAPS.

From the Foreword: "This book on the general subject of German pistols was prepared in an attempt to fill a need of the arms collector and student for a woek containing the various makes and models of pistols that were procured for the many German organizations during the Hitler era." 223 pp, many photos and specifications of the various arms in both Vols 1 and 2. Volume 3 has photos and details about holsters. Volume 4 is a list of various items issued to different parts of the Reich. Vols 2, and 4 are Fine, no tears, chips, foxing, etc. Volume 3 is Near Fine with three small spots on the outside of the front board. All are Limited Editions with #1276 of 2000, 333, 363, and874 being the numbers of the respective volumes. This is a scarce and hard set to complete, very valuable for serious collectors.
