About This Item
Original serigraph by Maccoy presented to Ten-Thirty Gallery's members as a 1945 membership bonus. According to the accompanying text, Maccoy was inspired by objects found in pre-Colombian culture and by the Mound Builders. Maccoy is quoted regarding this artwork: "These objects are of great inspiration to me because of their space breaking beauty. I use them in creative arrangements as one would in a still life set up. While painting a pre-Columbian [sic] culture map mural for the Brooklyn Museum under the guidance of Dr. Spinden, I used Mayan and Aztec codices for research material. the color in this design is personal but may have been influenced by the research I have done in this field." Paper: 13 1/4 x 11 inches; Image: 9 1/8 x 7 inches.
