Coloniae: Lazari Zetzneri, 1603. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo. With Parabolarum Sive Similitudinum. Coloniae: Lazari Zetzneri, 1603. With seperate title-page and pagination. Modern black wraps over boards. Title on paper spine label. Bookplate of former United Nations staff interpreter Lt. Colonel Victor de Guinzbourg on front pastedown. Woodcut vignette and early ownership signature on title-page. Book I: [16] 844 p.p.; Book II: [16] 143 p.p., [5 p.p. index]. Conrad Lycosthenese [1518-1561] was a humanist and encyclopedist born in Alsace. The present two books are a collection of apothegms, porverbs, and parables from ancient Greek and Roman writers and philosophers. Rubbing and small tears to wrappers. Trimming to edges. Several leaves cut at top margins towards end of book two, with loss to text and page numbers, starting on p. 85. Lacks endpapers. Otherwise a very good copy.
