Fine in unprinted wrappers in very good proof dustwrapper, which is a little taller than the proof, and consequently has a few tears at the crown. The author's first novel.

Cloth. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 312 pages, possibly a first American edition, states "First Published in 1932" on copyright page although there is no date on title page. Light green paper label has a small missing piece on cover. Subtle stain on cover, and paper label on spine. Page 17 has The Bright Temptation and B at the bottom as a binders note so perhaps this is a second printing...

The book was banned in Ireland under the Censorship of Literature Act and was not published there until 1965 (per Oxford Dictionary of National Biography). 313 pages. First edition (first printing, stating "First published" on the copyright page). A very good copy in a completely spine-faded fugitive green dust jacket. The ink fades away anywhere it is exposed to light. This is a review copy with the publisher's slip, partially completed by hand, laid in. This copy also belonged to the Pulitzer Prize- and Academy Award-winning Texas writer Larry McMurtry, with his distinctive stirrup bookplate on the front pastedown. Very scarce in a dust jacket.
