About This Item
In Italian; La Piana's translation of Moore's History of Religions.
Some soiling, age darkening, front and rear hinges & backstrip somewhat tattered, spine tanned, some fraying at spine head and heel but all pages tight, bright, intact and unmarked. Deckled edges. Bears bookplate of Fr. La Piana and a note from him with his signature.
George Foot Moore (1851 - 1931) was an eminent historian and professor of religion, and an author and Presbyterian minister. He was a professor at Andover Theological Seminary, and a member of the Harvard Divinity School faculty from 1902 until his retirement in 1928. He was particularly known for this masterwork.
This is the definitive translation of this classic into Italian by the distinguished Italian-born American theologian, priest, philosopher, humanist, anti-Facist and medieval scholar Giorgio La Piana, who was also at the Harvard Divinity School, as Morison Professor of Church History from1926 to 1948.

La Piana was one of the leading personalities in the religious movement and controversy in Italy at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, and he considered this work sufficiently important to translate himself.
This translation has been reprinted numerous times. We believe 1922 is the first edition.
