Boston, Massachusetts: Kiley, Printer, 1886. Very good. Minor toning, spotting, water staining. Evidence of previous adhesive, newsprint from scrapbook on verso.. Lithographed invitation with luxurious maroon trim and beveled gold edges for the seventeenth annual Boston Police Ball, held in the Mechanics Hall on Huntington Avenue by the Boston Police Relief Association. Proceeds from the event went towards aid for officers and families in need of charitable assistance. Measures approx. 4.5" by 7" with maroon trim, lithographed in blue, upper card with beveled gold edges. An unusual format for an invitation, particularly to a Police Ball. Silk fringe is most often seen on chromolithograph Victorian greeting and album cards.
