About This Item

External dimensions 105 × 76 mm; in fine condition. Peake 1057. This attractive bookplate, featuring a vase of Australian native flowers, is usually seen hand-coloured. The plate is featured as the frontispiece to Harry Muir's 'The Bookplates of G.D. Perrottet' (Adelaide, The Wakefield Press, 1942), where it appears as number 161 in the checklist, dated 1941.

George David Perrottet (1890-1971), 'although technically an amateur artist, was one of Australia's most admired and prolific bookplate designers, producing over 220 bookplates between 1929 and 1964' (Mark Ferson, in 'The New Australian Bookplate Society Newsletter', Number 16, March 2010).

Provenance: Marcie Muir (1919-2007); by descent.
