Book has some bumped corners, light discoloration and shelf wear. Translated from the German by Charles Frank Schmidt, Introduction by Theodore G. Gish. Reprinted in 1991, with a new foreword by Roland A. Eisenhauer, a new introduction by Theodore G. Gish and an index by Martha Strickland. 9.25"x6.25", 229 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Originally published in German in 1849, this book has been described by scholars of German-Texana as "a treasure of German-Texan history," and "a valuable contribution to our knowledge of early Texas." Always a champion of Texas and democracy, Bracht displays a zeal presented here in a highly readable 1931 translation by Charles Schmidt. As an employee of the Mainzer Adelsverein, Bracht traveled extensively through settled and unsettled parts of Texas, carefully observing conditions and relating them authoritatively to an eager audience in Germany.
