About This Item

Cowley, Oxford: Quekett Microscopical Club, 1994. First Edition. Boards. Near Fine. First Edition. ix, [1], 243, [1] pages 8vo. Publisher's blue printed boards. A clean bright copy. No dust jacket as issued. Boards. Includes a cumulative index, and five appendices (Presidents of the Quekett Microscopical Club 1865-1992; Honorary Members of the Quekett Microscopical Club 1865-1992, with dates of Election; Publication History of the Journal; Obituary Notices; and Books Reviewed or Noticed). A massive accomplishment when computer indices were not available for nearly any journals and must be compiled by hand.

"In extending the original list I have included every article, note and letter and, while I have excluded most domestic Club matters, I have included some items likely to be of interest, such as Obituary Notices and pre-1939 Excursion venues. In addition, I have included many references from the extensive Club "Proceedings" and, in this connection, where a paper was reported in the proceedings, but not published, I have included it under the author's name as a "Reported Item". The early proceedings were markedly discursive, so where an author's paper is shown as 'Reported', or a published paper is shown as 'discussed', it should be understood that the named author may well have been a minor contributor to the proceedings and that any discussion may have wandered down other, not always relevant, paths. In respect of binomial names I have included references to new species and others where there is a substantial reference...I hope that the following pages will provide a useful guide to the contents of a publication which has, despite varying fortues, never departed from its original aim in maintaining the highest standards while, at the same time, providing an accessible forum for anyone interested in microscopy, amateur or professional" (Michael J. Newstead, the Introduction).
