Publisher's original maroon cloth with embossed floral decorations in blind to the boards with gilt titling to the front board and spine. xxx; 252 pages + 4 pages of publisher's adverts to rear. 40 illustrations by C E Brock (all present). Slight fading to the spine, softening to the head and tail of the spine, minor rubbing to the extremities. Overall, a solid VG copy with foxing to the early/late pages of the book. Front hinge starting. Two former owner's names to the front free end-paper. Virtually no foxing to the interior. No D/W. Quite a nice copy. NB: A bibliographical note: this is the First Edition Thus from 1895 and NOT the 1899 Reprint. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Brock, each of the other volumes are illustrated with 40 line drawings by Hugh Thomson. Contemporary half green morocco by Riviere and Sons. Green cloth boards, double ruled in gilt to the corner pieces and spine edge. The spines, with five raised bands have gilt ruled compartments and titles stamped in gilt. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. A very good set, the bindings square and firm with some rubbing to the extremities, the spines lightly scuffed and uniformly faded. The contents, with toning to the text block edge are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Several of the pages, hand-cut to the fore-edge, have been a little roughly opened resulting in small nicks or tears (none of which affect any text or illustrations). London: J. M Dent and Sons Ltd. 1922. Complete in six volumes. Contemporary purple half calf with five raised bands and gilt titles on the spines, red cloth boards. Top edges gilt. Illustrated throughout the six volumes with a total of 96 full page colour plates by Charles E. Brock. A lovely near fine set, the bindings square and firm, each with a little rubbing to the uniformly faded spines. Mansfield Park has a faint mark at the text block fore edge and Pride and Prejudice has a small bookseller's label on the front pastedown, otherwise the contents are clean and bright throughout. Very fine quarter green morocco leather bindings by Asprey & Co. of London. Marbled boards, top page edges gilt. Spines have five raised bands with gilt lettering and ornaments to compartments. Very slight fading to spines, slight marking to leather on rear board of Sense and Sensibility, bindings are otherwise in first class condition with no wear or rubbing. A couple of light marks to page edges. Internally the books are in excellent condition and appear unread - very clean pages and no inscriptions. First printing of Dent's 1950 new edition, each volume containing 16 colour illustrations by Brock taken from Dent's 1907-1909 edition. A handsome set in very desirable Asprey bindings. Johnson, some minor spotting and offsetting, mostly to some endpapers and the usual slight age-toning to paper but otherwise very good plus; publisher's grey cloth decorated in blue and gilt, top edges gilt, others uncut, even toning to spines, some very minor soiling, the only one of note is a small stain to the rear board of vol. I of Emma, otherwise, near-fine A most handsome set of this very desirable edition, in exceptionally good condition. C.E. Brock originally illustrated Pride and Prejudice for Macmillan in 1895, with black and white line drawings. He then collaborated with his brother H.M. Brock on this set for Dent in 1898.

Near Fine with slight fading to spine, bookplate of William Heighway to front pastedown, some foxing to textblock edge and endsheets, small tear to corner of tissue guard. A beautiful copy, signed and with a wonderful original illustration by Brock.
