Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

D. Appleton, 1903. Hardcover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. This old book is clean, solid and in great shape! This is a hardcover book with 376 pages including some illustrations. The binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. The pages are in great shape with some light soiling on a couple of pages and there is a name written on the title page. The title page shows 1903 as the publish date. The red covers show some light edgewear, light soiling and there is a small (half inch) chip on the spine label. This old book looks and feels great! We always ship in a sturdy cardboard box!

Newcastle: printed by E. Walker, for T. Bewick and Son, sold by them, Longman and Co.,, 1818. Superbly illustrated First Bewick edition, demy paper issue, one of approximately 1,000 copies from a total edition of 2,000. This is Bewick's last work, but "one that he had long intended to carry out, 'indeed ever since I intended anything'... the designs followed age-old formulae, and Bewick himself had drawn and redrawn them over the years" (Uglow, p. 343). One of the finest wood engravers of his time, Bewick (1753-1828) established his reputation with two naturalistic works: General History of Quadrupeds (1790) and History of British Birds (1797 and 1804). He had always been fascinated by Aesop; a copy of the fables, acquired when he was sixteen and inscribed "Bewick 1770", was still in his library at his death.
