Description:
Leiden: Samuel Luchtmans and Theodor Haak, 1728. Fourth edition, signed by the publishers. Small old tape adhesion on spine, lightly worn; internally clean and crisp/From the Collection of Allan B. Kirsner, M.D. 8vo. [8], 350, [12] pp. Title printed in red and black. Contemporary calf, morocco lettering-piece, initials AH in blind on front cover. Provenance: Robert Haaft? (signature on title); Henry Dixon (1805 inscription on pastedown, his figures on endleaves). An early, lifetime, edition of Booerhave's classic text. "The Aphorisms represent one of Boerhaave's best and most influential works" (Garrison-Morton-Norman 2199, edition of 1709). As with other Boerhaave editions, this is signed by the publishers on the verso of the title. Unfortunate experience with pirated editions had caused Boerhaave to insist that publishers sign attestations authenticating the legitimacy of their books.
