Top of spine torn with leather peeling on edges, vertical crack along spine, tiny hole in bottom of spine, marbled paper coming loose from covers with some small stains as well. Edges rubbed, hinges cracked, corners bumped. Front pastedown unpasted. Back endpaper coming loose as well. Labels removed from front and back endpapers. Owner's inscription on front free endpaper. Inside, text pages are clean and unmarked.

Portrait & extra engraved title. 8vo (8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches), 486-pages. old half calf over marbled boards; upper cover detached, spine badly cracked and chipped. The plates browned and foxed.

The plate facing page 202 - Mr Bruce introduced to the King at Gondar is detached. Printed on poor quality paper, page edges are untrimmed and a bit frayed. Bound in old half leather over marbled boards - the paper on the boards has been recycled as old printed text can clearly be seen beneath the marbling. Leather is worn and there is damage to the boards. A label seems to have been removed from the centre of the front board. Some pencil calculations and verse to the front end papers..

Leather spine title is missing, five raised headbands much worn. Spine and inner hinge repaired with nepalese papers, but still fragile. Corners of boards and edges much worn.
