Probably no one thing has had a greater influence upon the progress and expansion of the United States than the discovery of gold in California in 1849. This work portrays the experiences of one Alfred T. Jackson, a pioneer miner who cabined and worked on Rock Creek, Nevada County, California. The diary covers a period of about two years. Here we find a truthful, unadorned chronicle of the placer mining days of that time and a narrative of events as they occurred. The covers and the spine have some indentations but they are light. No apparent writings on the pages, no loose pages. A quite presentable copy, available for immediate shipment, carefully packed.

There has been some question as to the authenticity of this California gold mining diary, but it was supposed to have been kept by Alfred T. Jackson of Norfolk, Ct., and covers the period from May 18, 1850 to June 17, 1852.
