Description:
Leiden: E.J. Brill, 1888 The original first edition ( portfolio) with 17 collotype prints 190 x 285mm., mounted on card, each with separate printed text leaf ( a couple of leaves with sme folds, tears). Loose as issued. Red cloth, gilt title on upper cover, oblong folio, backstrip and edges worn, front cover with discoloring - size portfolio 520x390 mm.

Dance scenes and court musicians photographed in 1884 by the Javanese Cephas, official photographer to the Sultans of Jogyakarta, with explanatory text on the folding leaves by the Dutch ethnographer J. Groneman.

SeparateTEXT VOLUME (25x18) with the accompanying description (in Dutch by J. Groneman - discussing each plate in detail. Small spot on front cover and first 15 text pages with damage in the lower margins.
