Illustrated with thirty-two full-page portraits and a color map laid in. With a cyclopaedia of legislation during the administration of each governor, from the organization of the territorial government down to Governor Taylor with historical and descriptive sketches of each county in the state. Includes discussions of pioneer life, the economic history of Wisconsin, and anecdotes about its famous men and women. A Good or better copy with fading to the spine and a name on the front flyleaf. The map has a piece torn from it, leaving the rendering of Lake Michigan partially obscured.

Last two chapters are sketches of the counties in Iowa and biographical sketches of leading men in Iowa past and present (1876). 732pp. Laid-in is a Peale's Railroad and Township map of Iowa, Chicago, 1876. It is fragile, but without paper loss, and has been repaired with archival tape, intact for the entire State, but probably lacking one fold to the east. Overall very good, with modern rebind fine. Handsome first edition of this... we'll let the soup-to-nuts subtitle continuation tell it all: "A Cyclopaedia of Legislation During the Administration of Each Governor, from the Organization of the Territorial Government Down to Governor Taylor; with Historical and Descriptive Sketches of Each County in the State Separately, Embracing Interesting Narratives of Pioneer Life; Including an Account of the Commercial, Agricultural, and Educational Growth of Wisconsin." Although rebound, this super sharp and handleable copy is tight and bright and without foxing. The foldout state color map is superb, with some old but expert and discreet archival mends on verso.

Richard S. Peale and Co, 1876. Hardcover. Fair. well-loved and bears the marks of its rich history. The binding has loosened over time, allowing the pages to lay flat for easy reading. Several inner pages have developed unique, character-rich water stains, while the outer spine has a small piece missing in the middle, giving it a unique, vintage appearance. Despite these signs of wear, this book remains a wonderful addition to any collection, offering a journey through its story and the story of those who have cherished it before.
