This book is in Near Fine condition and has a Near Fine dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket is crisp and clean. "Smith was one of "the big three of Weird Tales, with Robert E. Howard and H. P. Lovecraft", but some readers objected to his morbidness and violation of pulp traditions. The fantasy critic L. Sprague de Camp said of him that "nobody since Poe has so loved a well-rotted corpse." Smith was a member of the Lovecraft circle and his literary friendship with Lovecraft lasted from 1922 until Lovecraft's death in 1937. Small black hardcover published by Arkham House in 1964 (copyright 1965), 54pp, one of 1016 copies printed. Initially book and jacket appear as new but has these DEFECTS: barely noticeable 1"x3/4" light area at lower edge of front cover, slightest wear on tip of lower outer corner of front cover; very minor foxing on upper edge of title page and facing illustration; jacket has faint 3/4" coffee-like stain on outer edge of front panel, slight wrinkling at top and bottom of spine.
