Small perforation in front cover marks pages up to p. 14 but does not affect legibility. Ink signature front free endpaper. An occasional spot but generally very clean. Autobiographical memoir tells of Clay's early years in the Borders region of Scotland. Family, work, religion, sports, schooling, etc.

He later achieved considerable success with cattle ranching in Canada. Original cloth and gilt binding, the gilt now very dulled. Inner joints are cracking but sound, a presentable copy.
