Bound in the back are 8 pages of excerpts from unrelated books. George Combe (1788-1858) was a Scottish lawyer and a leader of the phrenological movement.

Published 19 years before the British edition. The famous phrenologist applies theories of mind and phrenology and morals, duties, etc., includes a discussion of polygamy, pauperism, etc., and on comport, government, etc. 464 pp plus ads and, for unknown reasons, several random pages from the publisher's other books.
