Description:
George Allen & Unwin, 1967. Fourth Impression. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 664pp, price clipped, no inscriptions, small bookplate from The Family Bookshop Kuwait to the front paste down, illustrated. In this copy the folding maps and geneological charts are incorporated in the text, we count six sets of charts and nine folding maps, the last one of which is a motor road map at the end of the text section and before the appendicies. A couple of the fold outs have an additional crease but none appear to have any tearing or damage. There is very slight rubbing to wrapper, especially to top and bottom of spine but no tearing or fading, wrapper is now in a clear removable protective sleeve. Very little wear internally, overall an exceptionally nicely conditioned copy. Happy to supply photos on request. Heavy book, please inquire for postage outside the UK.

Description:
London: George Allen & Unwin, 1949. First edition, first impression, pp.648, many illustrations, some in colour, 9 folding maps on seven sheets, and 6 folding genealogical tables. A very good copy in lightly soiled original cloth. Corners bumped, occasionally very lightly foxed. One of the most important accounts of Bedouin nomadic life around the Arabian Gulf by British administrator Lieutenant Colonel Harold Richard Patrick Dickson (1881-1959). Dickson served as British official in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Kuwait from 1919 until 1941. This work was the first, and only biographic, book he wrote on the now endangered way of life of the northern Arab Gulf. This work is considered 'monumental' in preserving Bedouin life and history, especially because Dickson recounts the detailed family and tribe relations he witnessed and heard in the oral histories told over evening campfires. He credits his friendly relations with the Bedouins to the circumstances around his nursing. He was…

Description:
1959. London, George Allen & Unwin Ltd., [1967]. Thick 8vo. Original burnt ochre cloth in original pictorial dust-wrapper; pp. 664; numerous illustrations from photographs, illustrations to text, 12 maps including 8 folding, 6 folding genealogical tables; lower panel of wrappers with light spotting, slight bumps to two corners, internally remarkably clean and fresh. Fourth impression of the second, enlarged edition, with the original wrapper design by Quilter unchanged since 1949. Dickson forms part of that tradition of British writers and travellers - Burton, Doughty, T.E. Lawrence, Bertram Thomas, H. St. John Philby, Gertrude Bell, Freya Stark, Thesiger - who became fascinated by Arabia and the Arabs, often espousing their causes and aspirations. Himself a fluent Arabic speaker, Dickson's friendship with such as Ibn Sa'ud and his travels in the Arabian peninsular resulted in the present work. A classic of the literature, it introduces the reader to the cultural life of Arabia, with chapters on…
