London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1923. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Book bound in dark blue cloth with gilt titles, light wear along eges and spine ends, one or two little blemishes, but remaining neat bright and square. Upper closed page edge dyed blue, other edges rough cut and browned. Hinge and text block firm, though webbing revealled along the upper edge. Small contemporaneous inked inscription to the front end paper. Pages smooth, clean, random brown spots here and there. Frontispiece portrait of the author, illustrated thoughout with photographic plates and a fold out map at the rear in excellent condition. A very nice well preserved book.

T. Fisher Unwin Ltd, London, 1923. 1st Edition. 8vo, pp468 complete with 23 photographic illustrations including frontispiece and fold out map to rear. Hardcover no dustjacket. Original blue cloth binding with gilt lettering in very good condition with a little shelf wear to top of spine that has a little fraying with a little bumping to tips. Inside a few ex-library stamps from London zoological society but only on rear of frontispiece, ffe paper and title page. All other rough cut pages with dyed top fore edge in very good condition as is map to rear. An excellent copy of a scarce edition.

Wrapped in mylar (removed for photo). Some wrinkling to cloth and softening of spine ends. Bookplate on front pastedown. This 1923 study of the Lango people of north-central Uganda narrates the origins and history of the group, which had a form of government based on minor clan chiefs before the arrival of British rule. Jack Herbert Driberg (1888–1946) was a British official in the service of the Uganda Protectorate in 1912–21 and lived and worked among the Lango, for whom he developed both sympathy and admiration.
