A complicated thriller involving the legend of the Wandering Jew, a family fortune and Jesuit plotting. Red cloth bindings with gilt titles and borders on spines. Some edge wear to covers with some bumping and fraying of spine ends and corners, a little spotting, light creases in spines, spines a little darkened, interior pages tanned and a bit brittle with a couple of pages detached and laid in with resulting chipping of page edges, binding otherwise appears tight. Measure 5 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches.

Burt Company pages are tanned in margins, clean text, some pages are creased and bent in lower front corner. cover is frayed and tattered, separate from binding and text, spine cover is worn and scuffed. binding is loose and cracked but text is still attached. . Each is a matching book with blue-green cover and gold gilt lettering on spine. The Three sides of the pages have a blue paintbrushlike speckling. Volume one has rolling at the top and bottom of the spine. There is a 1/8" waterdrop stain on the back cover and a what appears to be a darker, possibly oil based drop stain, possibly a thumbprint on the front. There is also a tiny bit of the same substance near the lower corner. The cover has normal age wear. The pages and illustrations are clean, crisp. and intact.
