Cloth spine slightly darker color than boards - uncertain as to whether this is original or due to age toning. Inside hinges are starting but not evident from outside of the book. Claude Flight (1881-1955) was a devoted champion of the colour linocut, which, as he put it, "has no tradition or technique behind it, so that the student can go forward without thinking of what Bewick or Rembrandt did before" (p. 63). The exhibition he organised at the Redfern Gallery in London in 1929 was "the first exhibition devoted exclusively to the linocut in Britain; its success at the Redfern Gallery, London, led to a series of eight annual exhibitions which he arranged, initially at the Redfern and then at the Ward Gallery, London, until 1937. Flight also introduced the linocut to a diverse international audience through exhibitions toured by the Redfern to the United States (1929 and 1934), China (1931), Australia (1932 and 1937), and Canada (1935-6).
