Bell and Daldy, 1872. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to in blue cloth, title and devices in gilt. Binding tight and square, hinges reinforced with archival tape, corners rubbed, rebacked with original spine laid down, plates at rear moderately foxed.

The interior of the book is in good condition, excepting for pages noted. Tape residue on the first and last pages. Edge tears, test not affected. Illustrated with plates. Yellow age spots and stains on the front and back parts of the book - the endpapers, title page and last several pages. Fair to poor overall condition ; Ex-Library .

Book is in Very Good condition; some wear on spine and along lower edge, some chips at top of spine, boards are very lightly soiled, previous owner's names small in ink on ffep and half title page, also very small sticker on ffep. Endpapers show some toning. Some toning to edges of some pages of interior. No other defects noted. No marks or writing noted on interior, binding sturdy, hinges fine, gilt on front and spine still bright. See photo. NOT EX-LIBRARY.

Pp. xvii + 529, errata slip tipped-in facing verso of p. xvii, illus with b&w plates and drawings in text (previous owner's long 1901 inscription on front free endpaper).

Publishers binding of red cloth with black borders to bevelled boards and gilt design of sun-dial to front board and titles to spine in good condition with a few nicks, small split down top front of spine and shelf wear to top & tail of spine. Inside both hinges starting to crack but holding nicely, previous owners names to front paste down. All pages in clean and bright condition with a little foxing to end papers and plates at rear.
