Small label on front pastedown. Very clean. Martin Louis Alan Gompertz (1886 – 1951), born in India, was known by the pseudonym of "Ganpat," another name for the elephant god "Ganesh." The author's journey includes the Dras Valley, Kargil, the gate of Lamaland, over the Nimaki La, the Photu La and Lamayuru, the Indus Valley, from Nurla to Nyemu, Leh monasteries, Khardong Pass, etc.

Frontispiece. 36 black and white illustrations on 16 pages. Original illustrated dustwrapper which is somewhat soiled but complete. A few minor chips and other staining otherwise a great copy in the very scarce wrapper. Martin Louis Alan Gompertz (1886 1951) was an Anglo-Indian soldier and writer. He wrote two travel books on Ladakh, the Tibetan enclave in North-West Kashmir, and the above title as well as adventure fiction. 1916
