Hammond,, [1953]. 8vo., First Edition thus, with numerous illustrations (a number full-page) and full-page map in the text, free endpapers and edges faintly spotted; maroon cloth, backstrip lettered in cream, a very good, bright copy in unclipped dustwrapper, the latter with one short closed tear on rear panel. This classic account is one of the few by a surviving glider pilot. Hagen flew on the Second Lift and fought right through, escaping by swimming the Rhine on the second Monday. His story was first published in January 1945; this is the first illustrated edition (the illustrator, Deliss, also served at Arnhem). Browning's Foreword appears here for the first time.
