Called 'a forgotten American literary treasure' by The New Yorker magazine, she was the author of 52 books and more than 180 articles and stories. This was her first book, a tongue-in-cheek exploration of how men court women.

Her biography and resume are extraordinary. She matriculated at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in General Arts and then tried to become a Chemistry major, but men and tradition prevented her from doing so.
