Enclosed is a post card from Paul Latcham, scholar and collector of bookplates and former editor of the Bookplate Journal. He suggests that the bookplate is probably that of J.G. Rodney Ward (resident at Yatton Court from the late 1860s to 1880s). An attached pencil note to Ken Smith in a different hand states that Latcham was pleased to see a previously unknown County bookplate [Herefordshire].. First edition. Includes letters by Tycho Brache, Thomas Lydyat, Charles Cavendish, John Pell, and others. Also includes the by-laws of the *Historical Society of Science*, founded by James Halliwell, an antiquary and unrepentant son-in-law of the bibliomaniac Sir Thomas Phillipps. With the formation of the *Society* and publication of this work, Halliwell advanced the history of science as an independent scholarly pursuit. William Henry Black was a prolific contributor to many journals, and a member of the *British Archaeological Association*. A handsome copy, scarce in the original boards.
