First printing of the Sidewinder edition, Fine, unread book in a Fine minus dust jacket that has very slight rubbing both panels. Note that spine of book is plain black cloth with no lettering. This was Hillerman's first mystery and it featured Joe Leaphorn, a Navajo Nation policeman. Introduction by Ernie Bulow of Buffalo Medicine Books. Dust jacket art and illustrations by Navajo artist Ernest Franklin. This copy has been signed
on the title page by Hillerman, Franklin, and Bulow. Laid-in is an explanation from Sidewinder regarding this new edition of Hillerman's first mystery.

Overall, the book and purple dustwrapper show as "tight and clean" (especially in the mylar protector). Might be a printer's copy, because it has technical information on type-setting written on the ffep. in pencil. A very respectable copy at a "respectable" price. A beautiful First Edition (U.K.) of Tony Hillerman's First Book, signed by Tony Hillerman, one of America's favorite authors. The book is Near Fine blue cloth with the very slightest touches of lightness on the spine ends, and two very faint marks on the page edges, all barely noticeable; otherwise very clean and bright. The Near Fine dustjacket is complete with original price intact and very light touches of soiling at the edges; the front and back panels are coated in light plastic so it is difficult to say if this has yellowed at all (it is cream-colored) but it has certainly protected the dustjacket from tears or scrapes; the interior of the dustjacket (next to the book) is pristine. One of the most desirable "First Books" by an American author, this is a beautiful copy in archival plastic cover by this revered writer who rarely signs any longer.
