History of a medical unit from Indiana that served in France during World War I, profusely illustrated with full page photographic plates and a large fold-out map of Contrexeville, where Hospital 32 was set up. No marks in book, front hinge slightly weak. Covers show a small bump edge of front cover, small white spot bottom of front cover. Book condition VG.

Book is firm in binding, deckled pages; frontis photo of pharmaceutical magnate J. K. Lilly, founder of the hospital whose history is recounted here. It was Lily's idea to organize--with the help of the Indianapolis chapter of the Red Cross--a volunteer staff of medical personnel to serve under the Red Cross in the event the United States became involved in the World War. The hospital provided service to 9,698 soldiers during the war with only 118 deaths and later served as an evacuation unit. It closed in January 7, 1919. Two months after the war ended.
