Boards lightly shelfworn with some scuffs down joints, a couple waterspots to cloth, and general light smudging / soiling to surface. Spine darkened and a bit cocked. Light foxing to endpapers, with faint creasing at the bottom corner of pages 15-18. Binding is sound and pages unmarked. Isherwood's novella based on cabaret singer Jean Ross, republished later in his novel Goodbye Berlin. The character of Bowles would be taken up in other works, including the play and film versions of I Am a Camera (1951 / 1955) and Cabaret (1966 / 1972), and was an influence on other writers' characters, such as Capote's Holly Golightly. Internally a very clean copy indeed without inscriptions, marks or stamps. Absolutely no foxing whatsoever to the pages or the page edges. Rebound in full black leather with four raised bands to the spine. Gilt titles to the red leather label. Marbled end-papers. The basis for the show 'Cabaret'.

First edition, 12mo., pp.150, blue cloth lettered in black; very slight foxing to fore-edges, light rubbing to extremities (noticeable at headband), else fresh and near-fine, in unclipped dust-jacket, which has loss to head and foot of spine (apx. 6mm at head of spine, and up to 1cm irregularly at foot of spine), as well as small enclosed area of loss to spine, 2.8cm closed tear to front upper margin and 1cm closed tear to front lower margin, toning and water-marking to spine, light chipping to other extremities, nevertheless largely complete and otherwise very good - now in a protective cover.
