This volume contains a commentary on La Fontaine and the importance of his fables, as well as a life of Aesop. La Fontaine is considered one of the key fabulists, and one of the most influential early French writer, who served not only to inspire and shape French literature, but also fabulists of other countries as well. In FAIR condition. Minor to moderate scuffing to the covers, especially along the extremities. Small dark stain on rear cover and a small to medium area of darkening along the upper fore edge of the front cover. Some soiling. Al termine del volume (A Paris: de l'imprimerie de Prault pere, quai de Gêvres, au Paradis, 1742). Strappi e mancanze al margine bianco di alcune pagine (quattro) senza perdita di testo. Una gora al margine bianco di alcune pagine alla prima parte. Legatura coeva in piena pelle, in cattive condizioni (usure ed erosioni, mancanza ad un angolo del piatto posteriore, senza tassello di titolo al dorso, con mancanze). Interessante edizione settecentesca di La Fontaine, completa e non comune, purtroppo in modeste condizioni complessive.

Baudier. L'ouvrage est en outre illustré de très nombreuses petites vignettes également gravées sur bois et imprimées en sépia ou en noir!
