Good overall w owner stamp on fep (dated 4/26/1890), first signature (pp i-xiv) detached but binding is otherwise tight, light edgewear and soiling, spine faded. A deluxe edition of Longfellow*s poems with numerous b/w tissue-guarded plates incl frontispiece engraving of author, with orange border lines surrounding the text on every page. Overall, a sturdy and still readable copy, with handsome cover. Also laid-in is a yellowed 1918 newspaper clipping reporting poet Joyce Kilmer being killed in action. 6 x 8-3/4, 492 pp, index, b/w illus, black endpapers.

Green cloth covered hardcover boards with green lettering against a gilt background on front cover. Black decorative designs on front cover. Gilt decorations and lettering on spine. Binding mostly sound, but front hinge is loose resulting in some loose pages to the front of text. Former owner's bookplate on inside front cover.

Followed by the Printed Title Page dated 1859. Original Black Tooled Full Leather Binding with 5 Raised Bands to spine. All Page Edges Bright Gilt with incised decoration. Inner edges of cover have bright gilt decorative border. 7 1/4" Tall. Some wear to leather and a closed tear, 1" long, at top corner of spine. Hinges slightly cracked. An occasional spot of light foxing but most pages in very good, clean condition. Size: 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall
