Gilt decorated cloth, art nouveau design (that is, hard covers) pp. xii, 214, 2 and 7 publisher’s advertisements, the later being Elkin Mathews and John Lane’s List of New and forthcoming Books dated 1893. With Illustrations by C.S. Ricketts. [References identify the binding as by Charles Ricketts. There are two monograms on each board]. Top edge gilt, others uncut. First Edition. Head of spine worn; small dampstain to foot of front board; heavily dampstained at the top corners of the front and rear boards; this damp has affected the margins of the preliminary leaves, and also those of four of the six plates; otherwise a very good copy.

John Byrne Leicester Warren, 3rd Baron de Tabley (1835-95), English poet, numismatist, botanist and an authority on bookplates (notably reflected in his 1880 work A Guide to the Study of Book Plates). He was a close personal friend of Alfred Lord Tennyson, who noted of Lord de Tabley 'He is Faunus, he is a woodland creature'.
