Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Unclipped jacket has heavy edge-wear with chips, tears and creasing. Moderate tanning to spine.

First edition of The Book of Lovat Claud Fraser by Haldane Macfall in the original publisher's quarter cloth binding. This biography traces the life of Lovat through four themes; 'The Man', 'As Artist', 'As Decorator, Maker of Books, Trade Tracts, Posters and Cards', and 'As the Poet Honeywood'. Lovat was a well renowned English artist and author. With twenty one plates, eight of which are in colour. Collated, complete. Pages 163-166 not issued as with all copies. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper backed boards. Externally, very smart. Claud Lovat Fraser (1890-1921) was an English artist and author, known for his designs after the first world war, which included for 'As You Like It' and 'The Beggar's Opera'. His career was cut short by his tragically early demise.Written by Haldane MacFall, an art critic and historian. He had collaborated with Claud Lovat Fraser, and also written biographies on the likes of Henry Irving, Whistler, Henrik Ibson and Francois Boucher. Illustrated with twenty-one plates, including those in colour and two portraits of the subject. With vignette illustrations throughout.A wonderful biographical work exploring the life and art of Lovat Fraser. In a quarter cloth binding. A biography of the artist Claud Lovat Fraser. Born in the London in the late 19th century, Lovat Fraser established himself as a multidisciplinary artist and designer post World War One, designing everything from cards, to stage designs and interiors. After being commissioned as the designer for a landmark production of 'As You Like It' directed by Nigel Playfair, Fraser cemented himself as a theatrical designer of note. Sadly just as his career as a theatrical designer began to gain momentum, with the success of another collaboration with Playfair, Fraser tragically passed away at the young age of 31. After a brief period under the tutelage of Walter Sickert in 1912, Fraser executed illustrations for Haldane Macfall's essay on art and aesthetics entitled The Splendid Wayfaring. In a cloth binding with decorative paper-covered boards and unclipped dustwrapper. Externally sound, though with some marks and light bumping. Hinges are slightly strained.
