Tokyo: Seibundo-Shinkosha Publishing Company, 1956. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. First English Edition. Hardcover, no jacket, in remarkably clean and well-preserved condition. The cover of the binding is made from the fabric used to fashion the judo uniform jacket. Corners slightly bumped, turning in the page corners of the outer pages a bit. The text is clean. Black titling is bold and nearly undamaged, with just a few spots of wear, including to the 'O' in Judo. Spine not dulled or faded. Binding solid with sound, uncracked hinges. Former owner's 1958 gift inscription from father to son to rear pastedown (from Yokohama, Japan -- upon the son's earning his green belt in Judo). Full of b/w illustrations of demonstrations of techniques by the author. 245 pp.
