Description:
Philadelphia: Carey & Hart, 1840. Leather Bound. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 12mo. 464 pages, indexed. Hardcover bound in full brown leather with a later black leather or cloth covering glued over the spine and covered with a clear glossy substance. Inner hinges reinforced with book cloth tape. The binding is worn but holding. The text is quite foxed and stained. Two leaves, pages 233-236 are tipped in with the same cloth tape and are trimmed about the edges without loss of text. These same two leaves have yellowed tape repairs horizontally across the center of the pages. The rear flyleaves have several early newspaper clippings pasted, and some of those are quite browned. Handwritten notations on the rear flyleaf as well. A worn but sound copy. This is not an illustrated work.

The third cookery title from this Pennsylvania woman, one of the earliest of American cookbook authors. Internally near very good, with some soiling throughout. Professionally rebacked, in brown calf, with original boards, and a new gilt-titled and ruled black spine label. Handsome and sound. [other edition: Cagle 454-458].
