Description:
Paris: Dépôt général á L'ART CULINAIRE, 1931. Paperback. Cream paper wraps. Very good. 181 pages. 19 x 12 cm. Over 400 recipes for dishes from the former French colonies in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. In The Poser Behind the Pudding: Hidden Hierarchies in the African Colonial Cookery Book, Igor Cusack describes this books as "more of an ethnographic study, with an element of exoticism, rather than advice for preparing food for Europeans in the colonies." He is referring to recipes such as Camel-Stomach Stew, Tortoise Liver, and Monkey with Peanuts. On the other hand, from what we can see, since this copy is "unopened", this book is filled with beautiful illustrations. Cover and interior lightly toned. From the culinary collection of Carl G. Sontheimer, the man who revolutionized American cooking by bringing the Cuisinart to the United States. Bookplate states: This book is a gift from THE SONTHEIMER FOUNDATION Greenwich, Connecticut.
