Blind ruled full calf; six raised bands; gilt ruled morocco label. "London,1676" to foot of spine. Title page in red and black. Engraved half title. [xvi], 96, 101-443, 446-798, 797-1030, [xxvi Printer to Reader], 91 (Prosopographia), [34] p. Odd pagination but all correct catch-words. This is the copy of early American colonist Mordecai Hunton ( c. 1650-1687) of Calvert County, in the Royal Colony of Maryland. 24 x 35.3 cm. Rebacked in the 1920s but front board now detached.

1676. Cambridge, John Hayes for George Sawbridge, 1676. Folio. Engraved Frontispiece, Titlepage in red and black, [VIII] 8, 1030, 2, 20 pages / Prosopographia:[VI], 91,[XXXVI] pages. Original 18th century leather-binding with five raised bands and the original spinelabel. The binding with stronger signs of wear but firm and original. Interior in very good condition with only very mild signs of foxing. Very Rare ! Sir Thomas North (1535–1604) was an English justice of the peace, military officer and translator. His translation into English of Plutarch's Parallel Lives is notable for being a source text used by William Shakespeare for several of his plays. The first edition of his translation of Plutarch, from the French of Jacques Amyot, appeared in 1579. The first edition was dedicated to Queen Elizabeth, and was followed by another edition in 1595, containing fresh Lives.
