Now classic collection of paintings and prose remembering Los Angeles in a quieter time. Born in Fresno, California in 1908, Politi (1908-96) spent his developmental years studying art at the Institute of Monza in Milan Italy. Returning to California in 1928, Politi settled near Olvera Street in Los Angeles and began writing and drawing in earnest, winning a Caldecott Award in 1949 for Song of the Swallows. Inscribed and dated, with original watercolor drawings and decorations, by Politi to Fred Krinsky, a rabbi who founded several congregations in Southern California and a former chairman of the Government Department at Pomona College: "to Professor Fred Krinsky, in appreciation, Trojan Guild and Leo Politi, 1967."
