Pyle was in Africa, Italy, D-Day on the European continent, The Mariana islands, on an aircraft carrier on the invasion of Okinawa, seeing Okinawa secured. Then he was killed by a Japanese bullet on April 17, 1945. Sixteen black and white photos. 150 pages. 8vo good to very good hard cover with good dust jacket. Binding is green cloth over boards with a sketch of a soldier's helmet in burgundy. Pages are clean and unmarked and hinges are tight. Binding corners show wear and spine ends are bumped. Dust jacket is brown with yellow title and white illustration of a helmet leaning on a typewriter. Jacket edges are worn with chips. spine brown with black and yellow text..

Ernie Pyle was a syndicated columnist and a war correspondent. Pyle's soldier-oriented dispatches from military theaters overseas were read by millions during World War II. In 1942, he won a Pulitzer Prize for distinguished war correspondence.
Pyle was killed in action by a sniper on a Pacific island in April 1945, four months before the war ended. Last Chapter is a compilation of his columns/writings and was published posthumously.
