Vol 2 of two volumes the Macmillan Colonial Library edition of Scott's account of the expedition to Antarctica in the Discovery. 387 pages with 4 black and white photographs and a fold out Chart of Sledge Journeys from Winter Quarters. Book in good condition ex library and would have been much higher but for cover only held by a hinge front and back, sticker inside front cover, borrowing sleave remnants inside back cover, some foxing to margins first fifty pages, and light tanning. Cover has some wear around spine (see photos).

Volume I is has a library binding. Ex private library copies; no stamps or markings but for the library bookplate to each front cover. Covers well worn and marked, the joint of vol. II is split 3" in the middle. Hinges split. First 7 leaves of vol. I have what looks like a small mouse nibble from the bottom corner of the fore-edge and the free front endpaper and half-title page are dog-eared. The gatherings of the leaves of vol. II are quite loose and shaken, with quires and leaves in danger of coming loose. The fold-out chart to the rear pocket of vol. II is torn around the edges and is missing the top-left corner. A very well used but serviceable set.

With 260 full page and smaller illustrations by Dr. E. A. Wilson and other members of the expedition, photogravure frontispieces, 12 colored plates from Dr. Wilson's sketches and maps. Fold-out map in rear of both volumes, both in nice condition without tears. This is an ex-library set but the evidence for being so has been neatly removed where possible. There is some faint ghosting on the covers and spine from where a labels were removed. Evidence that remains include a small sticker on each fold-out map, a call number on title page and rear endpaper, a ghost of a square on the tilte page of each volume, and stamp on top foredge. Previous owner's bookplate on front fixed endpaper of both volumes. Bindings are tight. Set presents well.
