Contains colour illustrated frontispiece, with other plates and black and white illustrations throughout. Pages are lightly tanned and foxed, but text remains clear. Plates are bright. Binding is slightly shaky, due to cracked front hinge, but all pages remain attached. Small inscription to front pastedown. Boards and spine have minimal shelf-wear, with mild corner bumping and crushing to ends. Gilt remains bright. A few noticeable marks overall.

Sm. 8vo., Third Impression thus, with coloured frontispiece (original captioned tissue guard present), 32 plates depicting a variety of figures in colour and monochrome (all original captioned tissue guards present), and very numerous illustrations in the text; original series binding of green leather-effect cloth, upper board backstrip blocked and lettered in gilt and black, radial corners, lower board lightly age-marked else a near fine copy. Step's introduction to Mollusca was first published in 1901 with a revised edition in 1927. It was first included in W&W in 1945, twelve years after the author's death and substantially revised by A, Laurence Wells. A bright copy of the W&W third impression. See Marren, pp.171-172.
