In 1948, Commander Tailliez of the French Navy met Heinz Sellner, who, while being a prisoner of the Russians at Murmansk, began experiments to convert a submarine for use as an under-water recovery vessel. In this book, Tailliez describes how they worked together developing models to produce a prototype recovery vessel.
