16 mo. (6 3/4 by 4 1/2 inches) London: Whittaker & Co. , 1877. New Edition. 519 pages, the frontis is an original tipped-in photographic portrait of the author, illustrated title page with views of Chateau Margaux and Chateau Lafitte, 15 unnumbered lithographic plates of wineries, and scenes associated with wine production, 4 maps, a facsimile foldout of a signed wine contract, plus 7 pages of the publisher's advertisement for another title by the same author.

Original green cloth decorated binding with title framed by a surround of grape vines on the upper cover; title and author in gilt on spine. Very good condition (mild shelf wear to upper and lower spine, not affecting contents; previous owner's neat old inked inscription on front fly leaf).

Small 8vo, 165 x 102 mms., pp. viii, 519 [520 blank, 7 [8 blank], mounted original photograph of author, steel-engraved additional frontispiece, plus 19 plates including 4 maps (French wine growing districts), and a folded facsimile sheet of an autograph contract between Lord Bronte Nelson and Woodhouse & Co., original green cloth, gilt spine; slight wear to hinges and binding, but a very good copy, inscribed by the author on the verso of the front free end-paper, "Cl. G. Anderson, Sq[q]/ with the Authors/ compts." Charles Tovey (1812 - 1888) distinguished himself both as wine merchant and author.
