Pamela Lyndon Travers, OBE born Helen Lyndon Goff; Queenland, 1899 - 1996) was an Australian-born writer who spent most of her career in England. She is best known for the Mary Poppins series of children's books, which feature the magical nanny Mary Poppins. In 1933, she began writing the novel Mary Poppins, the first of eight Poppins books. Series formed the basis for Walt Disney's famous screen adaptation. EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION internally & externally! No remainder markings.

Contains black & white illustrations throughout including endpapers & pastedowns. Noticeable tear & creasing to page 23 text remains readable. Tiny scuffs to edges of pages from 155 through to 162. Minor dog-eared corners. Pages are mildly tanned throughout. Mild cracking to rear hinge, slightly exposing netting. Binding remains firm with creasing to paper at gutters. Previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Visible tanning to spine and edges with some crushing to spine ends. Noticeable black marks to boards, with small brown stains across the spine. Book is bowed and forward leaning.

Gerald Howe Ltd. London. 1934. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. (7.6 x 5.2 inches). 27 line illustrations by Mary Shepard. One small, faint mark to the title page otherwise a near fine copy which is bright and clean throughout. Publishers yellow cloth with black lettering to the spine and front board, which also has an illustration of Mary Poppins. Illustrated endpapers. In the original illustrated grey dustwrapper which is split in two but is currently held together in a removable wrapper protector. There is some loss to the top and bottom of the spine and a large closed tear to the front panel with a small amount of loss. Small and neat booksellers label (Zeitlin Books of Los Angeles) to the rear pastedown endpaper. Overall a near fine book, with a little bumping to the top of the spine, in a good example of the scarce dustwrapper that is quite clean and more then 95% complete, so could easily be restored to it's former glory.
