A sumptuous dark green cloth, with blindstamped and gilt-bordering, and lavish gilt-decorations and titling at the front panel. Very light spotting to the front panel, former owner bookplate at the front pastedown. In a lovely script "With Moet & Chandon's Compliments" at the verso of the front free endpaper and, on the facing blank page, a flowing, unidentified 1883 signature appears. Quarto, all edges gilt, 350 engravings (including the frontispiece "A Supper Under the Regency") complementing Henry Vizetelly's text.

Open and closed tears to the tips and edges of the frontispiece tissue guard. The text appears unmarked. The binding is shaken, but still intact.

Also included is a typed list on onion paper, of the different counties in California, The topology and character of the soil, how many wineries in the county, and the types of wines and grapes. Probably done during the forties or fifties because of the number of sweet wines on the list: Claret, Sauternes, Muscatel, Angelica, etc.; and traditional table wines: Chianti, Burgundy, Riesling, etc.
